Mahjabeen has always strived to create a sense of balance in her paintings by composing lucid strokes, creating the perception of depth and space by fusing light and dark in a literal and metaphorical context. Working with multiple mediums and gold leaves, she has always respected the negative spaces in these compositions. Building paintings with “dawani” and “nastaliq” fonts as the foundation and utilizing powerful symbols such as the Halo, the works are imbued with a special sense of spirituality and intimacy. The names and verses are broken down on a microcosmic level to conjure surreal symphonies in which the dancing Haroof are narrating the tale of their origin.
